Privacy & Terms

Last updated May 14, 2026. Standard Works is a product of Efex AI, Inc.

In plain English

We handle two very different kinds of data, and we treat them differently. This page tells you which one applies to you and what we do with it.

  • Public Archives accounts. Free accounts on standardworks.ai used to browse public-record document collections. We use this data to operate and improve the product. We do not sell it.
  • Customer data. Documents and matter content uploaded by paying customers (law firms, litigation teams). This is treated as highly confidential and is governed by the contract we sign with each customer, not by this policy.

Privacy Policy

How we handle your data.

1. Public Archives accounts

This section applies to anyone who creates a free account to use Public Archives — our hosted collections of public-record documents (such as the Epstein files release).

What we collect

  • Account information you provide: name, email, password hash.
  • Usage data: pages visited, queries you run, documents you open, features you use.
  • Device and log data: IP address, browser, operating system, timestamps.
  • Cookies and similar technologies for session management and analytics.

How we use it

  • Operating the product (signing you in, serving your queries, sending account email).
  • Improving the product — including analyzing usage patterns and using queries and feedback to evaluate, debug, and improve our retrieval, ranking, and AI features.
  • Communicating with you about the product, new features, and Standard Works.
  • Detecting abuse, preventing fraud, and enforcing our terms.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Your choices

You can request access to or deletion of your account data at any time by emailing nicholas@standardworks.ai. Residents of California, the EU, the UK, and other jurisdictions with applicable privacy laws have additional rights, which we honor.

2. Security and retention

We use industry-standard safeguards: encryption in transit and at rest, least-privilege access, and continuous logging. We retain account and usage data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to operate the service and meet legal obligations.

3. Children

Standard Works is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

4. Changes to this policy

We'll update this page when our practices change. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-product notice. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

Terms of Service

Rules for using the product.

1. Who these terms apply to

These terms govern the public-facing Standard Works website and free Public Archives accounts. Paying customers are covered by a separate Master Subscription Agreement; if there is any conflict between this page and a signed agreement, the signed agreement controls.

By creating an account or otherwise using the service, you represent and warrant that you are at least 16 years old, that you have the legal capacity and authority to enter into this binding agreement, and that — if you are using the service on behalf of an organization — you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.

2. Your account

You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account and for keeping your credentials confidential. Don't share your account, don't impersonate others, and tell us if you suspect unauthorized access.

3. Acceptable use

Don't use the product to:

  • Break the law or infringe anyone's rights.
  • Scrape, mirror, or redistribute the service or its contents.
  • Reverse-engineer the product or attempt to bypass access controls.
  • Upload malware, attempt to disrupt the service, or interfere with other users.
  • Use the product to build a competing service.

Access to the product is for human users only. You may not use bots, crawlers, scrapers, headless browsers, automated agents, browser-automation tools, AI agents, or any other automated means to access, query, or interact with the service, and you may not script or automate account creation, logins, or sessions. We reserve the right to detect, rate-limit, block, and revoke access for any use we believe is automated, and to seek any other remedy available to us.

4. Using the product for work

If you use the product in connection with your work for an organization, these terms apply to your use. Anything you do with the product on behalf of that organization — including any confidentiality or data-handling commitments your organization has made to others — remains your and your organization's responsibility.

When you use the product for your work, you grant Standard Works (Efex AI, Inc.) the right to truthfully represent that use: for example, to identify your organization as a user of Standard Works on our website, in conversations with prospective customers, and in investor materials. We will only describe what is actually true and will not imply any endorsement beyond the fact of use. If your organization would prefer we not reference it, email us at nicholas@standardworks.ai and we'll try to accommodate.

5. Public Archives content

Public Archives hosts documents from public-record releases. We provide them as a research tool. We make no warranty about completeness, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose, and the documents themselves remain subject to their original terms and any applicable copyright or court orders.

6. AI output

The product uses large language models and other AI systems to retrieve, summarize, classify, answer questions about documents, and the like. AI output is probabilistic and can be wrong, incomplete, fabricated, or out of date.

Standard Works is a research tool, not legal advice and not a substitute for reading the underlying documents. You are responsible for verifying any AI output before relying on it. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all liability for any harm arising from your reliance on AI output.

7. Termination

You can stop using the product and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that present a security or legal risk to the service.

8. Disclaimer and liability

The free product is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Efex AI, Inc.'s total liability arising out of or related to free use of the service is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars (USD $100). Paid customers' remedies are governed by their signed agreement.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the service after that date means you accept the updated terms; if you don't accept them, stop using the service and you may close your account.
